Collettore d'aspirazione - Intake manifold

L'Insetto Scoppiettante è tornato. Dopo dieci giorni tra le mani dei meccanici all'officina mi è stata restituita una Vespa in perfette condizioni. Il ritardo è da imputare interamente al ricambio del collettore di aspirazione spaccato in più punti, motivo per cui non riuscivo più a regolare correttamente il minimo. Il collettore di aspirazione - per chi fosse meno ferrato in materia - costituisce una sorta di polmone di accumulo per la miscela aria-benzina prima che questa venga aspirata nella testata e se sono presenti delle lacerazioni l'aria entra forzatamente smagrendo la miscela, causando una combustione irregolare ai vari regimi, aumentando i consumi e diminuendo le prestazioni. Ora che è stato sostituito, assieme alla cinghia e vari altri interventi, l'Insetto viaggia scattante più che mai. Certo, se invece di farli di NBR-PVC (ovvero una miscela di gomma e plastica) li facessero di alluminio come ai vecchi tempi, durerebbero senz'altro di più...

E come sostengo sempre, meglio la manutenzione programmata che un guasto inaspettato.

The Chuggabug is back. After ten days in the hands of the mechanics at the garage I had my Vespa back in perfect shape. They were late because of a missing intake manifold, due to be changed because it was broken in several points, reason why I couldn't correctly set the minimum. The intake manifold - for those who don't know much about it - is a sort of lung holding the air-fuel mixture before it's sucked into the cylynder's head and if it's cracked an excess of air gets in, leaning the mixture and causing an irregular combustion at various rpms, raising consumption and lowering its general performance. Now that it has been replaced, together with the belt and other fixes, the Bug is snappy as never before. Sure, if they made them out of aluminium like in those good old times instead of NBR-PVC (a rubber and plastic blend) they sure had a longer life cycle.

And as I always state, it's better a scheduled maintenance than a sudden failure.
