A homebrew globetrotter

I should have expected; spring had to trick me again and when I got out of home in the morning I could't imagine it would have rained this much. So much that I had - even if at the time of going back home it had nearly stopped - to dress myself in complete rainsuit. Helmet and full cotton balaclava, waterproof gloves, overpants, rock hiking boots (which I usually wear during this season) and a seat cover for the Bug, to protect its leather which, though I greased it a week ago, could be damaged by the mud lifted by high speed overcoming idiot drivers. Then, to be safe, I wrap my backpack in a specific red McKinley waterproof cover and I tie it on the back seat with my elastic hooked net. Man, I'm quite impressing; if I told people this photograph was taken during a mongolian border-to-border trip someone could easily believe it! But I'm on the way home, instead; when I reach the Torraccia (a local beach at the municipality border) I realize that the rain has made the sand compact enough for me to let me turn off-road and reach the old worn tarmac strip above the dune. It's a small thing, but for a couple of minutes I can enjoy the ride, before going back home and most of all before it starts raining again.

  1. That's a great picture of the machine on the ridge. I need to get a front rack for my Vespa GTS. It just cries out for a long, long trip....

  4. Steve: that picture is still nothing compared to your beautifully scened frames in PA countryside! I always recall your pictures when I see some fascinating landscape, really. The front rack is one of my best bargains: very useful, gives a cheesy look and you can free some space when you're travelling. I asked for it at the moment I bought my Vespa, and preferred to get that instead of paying less for the scooter. My Sardinia trip couldn't be done without it, 1400 kms partially on unpaved roads!

Heinz&Frenchie: you're way too kind, my friends! it seems that sunshine at last has come, I can't wait tomorrow to ride! I just passed 28,000 kms and next May 5th the Bug will be 2 years old; I'd like to celebrate its 30,000 for its birthday ;-)
