Gomme nuove - New tyres

L'inverno ci ha messi tutti a dura prova. La pioggia non ha dato tregua, il freddo e il ghiaccio sulla strada sono stati tanto intensi da fare desistere la maggior parte dei motociclisti, eppure tutto questo non avrebbe fermato l'Insetto Scoppiettante se solo non ci si fosse messa l'influenza e tutta una simpatica serie di inconvenienti stagionali che quest'anno hanno colpito ripetutamente tutti quanti. Il fatto è che io mi ero preparato alle condizioni della strada, facendo sostituire entrambi gli pneumatici con delle nuove Michelin City Pilot. La Piaggio monta gomme Pirelli come standard ma preferisco le Michelin da qualdo le ho provate per la prima volta: robuste, aderenti e con una buona resa sul bagnato. Ero stato tentato di montare un paio di Metzeler quest'anno, e la nevicata di gennaio mi avrebbe dato ragione, ma purtroppo la rinomata casa produttrice di pneumatici invernali non fornisce gomme per la Vespa, quindi ho dovuto rinunciare alle invernali e montare comunque un paio di gomme nuove che quantomeno danno un po' più di sicurezza su strade malmesse che in questo periodo dell'anno sono ben diverse dall'estate. Purtroppo l'influenza ha avuto la meglio e ho dovuto attendere la primavera per poterle provare, ma il tempo non dà tregua di nuovo: ancora giornate di pioggie e di vento forte che le previsioni prospettano almeno per un'altra settimana. Il bel tempo, quest'anno, si fa desiderare. Pianificare un giro di una giornata all'Elba, ormai, sta diventando quasi un'esigenza :-)

Winter stress-tested us all. The rain never stopped, cold and icy roads have been so intense to stop most bikers, but all this wouldn't have stopped the Chuggabug if only the flu and a whole plethora of other small accidents hadn't taken over everything. The fact is that I was ready to front the road because I replaced both tyres with a pair of new Michelin Pilot City. Piaggio's default tyres are the Pirelli ones but I much prefer Michelin tyres since I first tried them: strong, with a good grip and good performance on wet road. I was tempted to mount a pair of Metzeler, and last January's snowfall would have agreed with me, but unfortunately the world-famous winter tyres producer doesn't sell tyres for my Vespa, so I had to renounce to winter tyres and however get a pair of new ones which at least assure that bit more safety on uneven roads which are not exactly what they look like in summer. Unfortunately the flu got the better of me and I had to wait till spring to test them, but again the weather gives no respite: it's rainy and windy days which the forecast advances for a whole week at least. Sunny weather, this year, is playing hard to get. Planning a one-day trip to Elba island, by now, is becoming almost a need :-)
