Grease

Il tempo sta peggiorando e di giorno in giorno diventa imprevedibile. Una sella in vera pelle necessita di un'adeguata protezione e la crema nutriente che uso in estate per tenerla morbida e pulita non riuscirebbe ad evitare che si infradiciasse nel caso in cui un'improvviso scroscio di pioggia ci dovesse colpire. Per proteggerla dal freddo e dalla pioggia la soluzione e' una sola: ingrassarla. Un lieve strato di grasso steso direttamente con le mani in maniera uniforme e pulito adeguatamente con un panno pulito viene assorbito dalla sella durante una notte in modo tale che al mattino potremo sederci in tutta tranquillita' senza timore di sporcare i pantaloni. Piuttosto che applicare una grande quantita' di grasso in un'unica volta e' preferibile quindi procedere con piu' applicazioni leggere, due o tre a distanza di qualche giorno l'una dall'altra, per dare il tempo alla pelle di assorbire il grasso ed uniformarsi, mantenendosi brillante ma non lucida e oleosa ed evitando che un'esposizione al sole faccia tornare in superficie il grasso non ancora perfettamente assorbito.

The weather is getting worse and unpredictable day after day. A leather seat needs an adequate protection and the nutrient cream I use in summer to keep it soft and clean couldn't save it from drenching in case of a sudden shower. To protect it from cold and rain there is just one solution: greasing it. A thin grease layer, directly applied with our bare hands and polished with a clean cloth is absorbed by our saddle in one night so that in the morning we'll be able to seat confidently with no fear of spotting our trousers. Instead of applying a big amount of grease in a single hand it's better to proceed with several light hands every few days to give the leather the time to absorb the grease and get uniform, staying brilliant but not shiny and oily and avoiding that a long exposure to the sun bring the grease which hasn't still been absorbed back to the surface.
