Objects in mirrors are closer than they appear

A conclusione di questi due mesi d'attesa e della prima giornata di un periodo d'inferno a scuola, mentre viaggiavo beatamente sulla via di casa lungo uno dei miei percorsi preferiti sento improvvisamente uno strano rumore accompagnato da un'ombra che mi passa a fianco. Freno, mi fermo e all'improvviso mi accorgo che lo specchietto è in mezzo alla strada: il gambo si è spezzato di netto. Guardo di nuovo davanti e il cruscotto sembra quello della Indian di Burt Munro. Affascinante, certo, ma del tutto improponibile (nonché illegale). Quindi il giorno successivo, pregando gli dèi che non mi facessero incontrare pattuglie, sono andato da Easy Rider, il mio locale spacciatore motociclistico di fiducia, dove ho comprato uno specchietto nuovo, cromato, corto e bellissimo. E pensare che anni fa, quando comprai un paio di staffe per ogni eventualità non potevo certo immaginare che mi sarebbero servite per questo. Così l'Insetto ha un nuovo look, io viaggio sicuro e per una volta il problema si è risolto in un giorno. Non mi resta che battere il record di velocità sulle Bonneville Salt Flats.

At the end of these two months and on the first day of a hellish span at school, while I was happily riding home along one of my favourite routes I suddenly hear a strange noise along with a shadow flapping on my left side. I brake, stop at once and I realize that my rear view mirror is down on the road: the stem snapped sharply. I look again in front of me and the dashboard looks like the one of Burt Munro's Indian. Fascinating indeed, but absolutely unacceptable (and illegal as well). So, the following day, praying the gods not to cross any patrol, I went to Easy Rider, my favourite local motorbike gear pusher, to buy a new, chrome, short, wonderful rear view mirror. And when years ago I bought those two brackets not being sure about their real use, I couldn't imagine they deserved to be used like that. So the Chuggabug has a new look, I ride safe and once at least the problem has been fixed in a single day. All I need to do is beating the speed record on Bonneville Salt Flats.
